Ready to take to the skies near Chester? At Hawarden Airport, you can experience the thrill of flying a plane with trial flights in two and four-seater aircraft. Located in Flintshire, North Wales, just four miles west of Chester, this airport offers breathtaking views of mountains, coastline, and towns during your flight. These experiences are not just joyrides - you get to be the pilot. We offer 30-minute experiences in a two-seater Piper PA38, treating each flight as an actual first lesson for a budding pilot. Your time can be entered into your Pilot's Log. During the 30-minute sessions, you'll learn the basics, practice straight and level flight, and hopefully make some turns, as well as taxi on the runway. Our instructor pilots have extensive flying experience and are committed to guiding students to become safe, knowledgeable, and competent aviators. Hawarden is an ideal place to learn about aviation. The airfield near Chester has a rich history in aircraft construction. Today, the Broughton factory manufactures Airbus wings, flown off-site in the impressive 'Beluga.' If you're lucky, you might see a Beluga take off or land while you're at Hawarden Airport for your flying lesson in the Chester/North Wales skies!

- Spectators are welcome but will only be able to view the take off and landing
- Participants of 4 seater flights are allowed to bring an interested observer who can observe the lesson from the rear seat (at the discretion of the flight instructor and subject to weather conditions)
- Minimum age 14 years for 2 seater aircraft
- Under 14s can fly in the 4 seater aircraft with an accompanying adult and must be a minimum of 5 foot 2 inches (160cm) to operate the aircraft controls
- Maximum weight for 2 seater aircraft is 13 stone
- Maximum weight for 4 seater aircraft is 30 stone
- Maximum combined weight of 36 stone for participant and observer for 4 seater aircraft
- Please note that all weights quoted are approximate
Minimum Age: 14 years
Maximum Weight: 82.55 kg
- Photographs and videos of your experience are available to purchase
- Flying lessons only count towards a pilot's licence for those aged 14 and above
- Weekdays and weekends throughout the year

A brilliant experience. The weather made it challenging as it was very windy. but this made it more interesting. Also because Liverpool is a commercial airport, we had to circle round and wait for a landing slot which extended the flight beyond the allotted time.

From when we arrived at the liverpool centre we felt at ease with staff and they introduce our pilot who talked us through everything that was going to happen during the flight experience and got to say it was brilliant throughout I would defo recommend this st liverpool airport and steve our pilot was great

Having had at least one attempt aborted due to weather conditions, I was advised, when I phoned to check, that it was `just' possible to fly due to wind & visibility. I eventually located the operator - a longish walk down an unmade track & completed the paperwork.
I suppose it was preferable to experience flying a plane in those conditions - being thrown about by the wind - rather than just `point & go', but the instructor was tolrant & seemingly unruffled.
Possibly the flying time which is 20 minutes could have been a little longer & it should be pointed out that you must be uder 14 stones to do it - entry to the cockpit of the 2 seater is by dropping down through a hatch type door into the seat after climbing onto the wing.
Altogether though an interesting experience
