Flying Model Planes
There are few pastimes as illuminating as flying a model plane up into the sky, using a radio controlled handset. And here at FlyDays, we're delighted to be offering Model Plane Flying Experiences to book for the very first time on our site.
Radio-controlled model aeroplanes have been around since the late 19th century - used primarily first as entertainment, for example, in music hall theatres, but then for military and reconnaissance purposes, such as in World War II, when the US Army and Navy used them as artillery target drones, being able to fly using short or long wave pulses generated from the handset.
In many ways, they were the predecessor to Drone Flying, which are flown using an activated handset or via mobile technology, and which have found popularity in recent years. But in the last 25 years, flying model planes has really gained consistent and enduring popularity, with enthusiasts all over the world.
Model Plane Flight Training
We're proud to now offer two specialist Model Plane flight training lesson packages here on FlyDays. And no matter what your level of expertise and aptitude is, we're confident that you'll be able to find the right session for you.
The Basic Flight Training is ideal for those novices or entry level model plane fliers, as it starts with the training needed to acquire your 'A' test. This is the certification you need to obtain, because it'll show to model clubs and schools that you are fully qualified as safe to fly.
The Advanced Flight Training, meanwhile, is perfect for any model plane flyer that's of intermediate standard and upwards, as you'll get to have a go at taking on more complex and impressive aerobatic moves on your plane!
Where Can I Fly Model Planes In The UK?
In the case of both of the Flight Training session packages, both of these are available to book exclusively at the British Model Flying Association (BMFA), who are based in the Leicestershire village of Buckminster. It’s within easy reach from Melton Mowbray and Grantham, set in 40 acres of open countryside, perfect for spreading your model wings, so to speak!
There's a lively and busy atmosphere here, as on-site, you'll also find an RC model museum, the Flyers' Cafe, and there's a wide variety of different events that are hosted here throughout the year, including swap meets, competitions and fly-ins.
