Age is no limit: Parachuting pensioner’s quest to break records - News

The year 2020 has been perhaps one of the most astonishingly shocking years anyone has experienced in an extremely long time. As the world seemingly shut down, people all over the globe were perplexed as the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic created chaos and pandemonium.

Amongst this chaos, those that were most vulnerable were asked to remain vigilant, stay indoors, and be cautious about their activity. However, one inspiring man, by the name of Bob Smith, literally threw caution to the wind in an attempt to raise money for charity, as the 85 year old lept out of a plane, becoming the oldest known person to take part in a tandem skydive.

Bob’s incredible accomplishment is by far one of the most impressive feats we here at FlyDays have come across. Not only does Bob suffer with diabetes, heart disease and grout, but he was also sadly diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year. On top of this extremely hard year, Bob sadly lost his wife Pam earlier in the year as well. However, his incredibly inspiring attitude has led him to creating a lifelong legacy, as he becomes the oldest known man to tandem skydive for charity.

Bob was in good hands throughout the skydive and had nothing but positive things to say regarding his amazing flying experience. He noted: “It was a fantastic experience. We took the ‘scenic descent’, and I could see the North Sea and the River Humber, and all the villages and roads laid out beneath me.”

He went on to describe how fantastic the skydiving team that helped make this dream a reality saying “It was quite exciting, and I didn’t close my eyes once. They looked after me really well, and they were as determined as I was that I should go through with it. I had a huge rush of adrenaline and a massive sense of achievement”.

Bob’s main goal for this staggering feat was to inspire others and raise money for charity, after the Lincolnshire Freemasons were searching for unique ways to raise £2.25 million over 5 years. Bob suggested the idea, but was met with widespread dismissal as his friends thought it was an unachievable and crazy idea. Nevertheless, not to be deterred, Bob powered through and proved age is truly just a number.

He is still attempting to raise the £10,000 he desired, and here at FlyDays we strongly urge that if you can, donate to this inspiring man's page and help him and the Lincolnshire Freemasons continue their great work. He most certainly deserves it!
