About the experience

If you're looking for a flying experience that combines history and learning, look no further than these Biggin Hill flying lessons. The club at Kent's Biggin Hill Airport has been offering lessons since 1947, making it the oldest school on site for budding pilots. Biggin Hill is famous for its rich aviation history, having served as a front line Battle of Britain RAF station during the Second World War. Nowadays, it's known as an active commercial airfield just 12 miles south of London, making it a great choice for anyone who wants to learn the art of flying. As soon as you arrive, you'll notice the impressively long tarmac runway, which can accommodate larger commercial airliners and attracts plenty of corporate and business jet traffic. It's a sight to behold for aviation enthusiasts as you taxi past all the resident and visiting planes lined up. Once you're up in the air, your instructor will take care of the takeoff and usually about 10 minutes into the flight, the lesson proper can begin. This isn't just a "have a go" session - you'll be following exercise number three in the pilot syllabus, which is a lesson in flying "straight and level". This is the highlight of the flight and something that seasoned flying veterans never forget - the feeling of taking control of such an impressive aircraft.
