Humberside International Airport Limited
Humberside Airport is located just a short drive along the A18 road from the nearby village of Barnetby le Wold in Lincolnshire. It also has good links to Scunthorpe, Hull and Grimsby via the A180 and A15 roads. The nearest train station is Barnetby, and a taxi from the station to the airport takes just over 5 minutes.
Situated on the southern side of the River Humber, which runs between Hull on the northern side and Scunthorpe in the south, with the Humber Bridge connecting them, Humberside Airport started life, as many of our FlyDays venues did, as an RAF base in World War II.
Back then however, it was called RAF Kirmington, which opened during the peak of combat in 1941, and it was from here that the No. 166 Squadron RAF operated the Avro Lancaster bomber planes. A memorial bell to them is still on display in the main terminal building.
Once the war ended in 1945, it lay abandoned and disused for almost 30 years, until the local council saw its potential use as an airport in 1974, when it became Kirmington Airport.
With the UK Government’s renaming of the county to Humberside that same year, it was thus given the name it still has today, even after the Humberside name for the county was abolished in 1996.
The original Asphalt runway, which was extended in 1992 to its current length of 2196 x 214 metres, is still in place, which thus allowed the airport the opportunity to welcome larger aircraft to the base.
Humberside is still in commercial operation for regularly scheduled and chartered flights to Aberdeen, Amsterdam and Palma de Mallorca to name several destinations, with around 200,000 passengers passing through the airport a year as of 2019.
No matter which side of the River Humber you sit on, with our range of flying lessons at Humberside Airport, you can get to explore both sides of it as you never have before, from hundreds of feet up in the air.
Accompanied by a CAA qualified instructor, you’ll hop into an excellent two seater aeroplane, and under their careful guidance and expert tuition will become confident enough to master the controls and experience the thrill of aviation in no time at all.
Sessions come available as 30 minute or 60 minute packages, and not only do you receive a signed Flight Certificate to show off with pride on your wall, but the tuition you receive here will count towards obtaining your Private Pilot’s Licence.
If you’re looking for a unique way to celebrate a forthcoming special occasion - birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries - then a 6 Mile Helicopter Flight for One or Two may just be the ideal present.
Taking in miles of the surrounding Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire countryside, your on-board pilot will point out all the major landmarks and sights to you so you don’t miss a thing.
Plus whether you fly on your own or with a loved one, you get to toast the flight when you land back at base with a glass of something bubbly. Now that’s a jetset lifestyle!
FlyDays is ready to help you book your next flying day or experience from Humberside Airport, whether it’s a treat to spoil yourself with or even a surprise for a loved one. Any of our experiences we have available here can be booked onto from the dates listed on our calendar.
