In the heart of picturesque Northumberland you will find Atheys Moor Airfield home to Atheys Moor Flying School offering more than just Flying Lessons but memorable experiences too. Just a 40-minute drive from Newcastle and Gateshead and around the corner from Longframlington, the airfield is surrounded by beautiful countryside and historic castles.
The stunning home to this airfield is rich in history, which spans back over the course of 20 years. The airfield was established in 2001 by Ed McCallum, who was an aviation enthusiast, just like you. He wanted to share his passion with the local community, and over time, the airfield grew in popularity and became the hub for local pilots and budding aviation enthusiasts.
The founder, Ed McCallum, is an accomplished microlight pilot who dedicated his life to the thrill of flying. In the early 2000s, he decided to follow his dreams of becoming a pilot by enrolling in a flight training programme. Ed made headlines in 2014 when he flew his microlight aircraft from Northumberland in England to Oshkosh in Wisconsin, the United States. The flight covered a staggering 4,000 miles and took him 33 days to complete.
Atheys Moor Airfield offer thrilling experiences for you to partake in, including private flying lessons and Microlight Pleasure Flights. They are open 7 days a week and have a clubhouse on-site, available for spectators and participants if they fancy somewhere to relax.
The airfield has three runways to cater for most weather conditions:
