What Venues are Available in the East of England?
With nine venues to choose from scattered throughout the East of England, as well as the area being home to IWM Duxford in Cambridge there is bound to be a location that suits you.
If you’re based nearer to Cambridge you’re in for a treat, as not only is Duxford on your doorstep, but plenty of other flying venues such as Fowlmere Airfield, Sibson Aerodrome, Sutton Meadows Airfield. Flying off from these locations often gives you a glorious view of the fens and surrounding countryside.
Suffolk and Norfolk are also home to plenty of venues including Beccles Airfield, a former RAF station, and Norwich Airport which is only 2.5 miles outside of Norwich.
It’s safe to say that wherever you're based in the region there’s a range of venues to choose from depending on the type of flying experience you desire.
What types of Flying Experiences are Available?
Most venues in the region offer a range of different types of flying experiences, and to make navigating them easier, you can visit the venue site first to see what experiences you can do from that location.
But generally most venues offer the following types of experiences. To check, simply click on your flying experience and scroll down to the map feature on the left, where it will show you the venues who offer it.
Microlight
Not too different from a traditional aircraft, microlights are known for physically being much lighter to fly. Flex-wing microlights have an open cockpit where you can feel the breeze on your face as you fly, whereas fixed wing microlights are in a closed cockpit. Usually, with a microlight experience you’ll be sat up front with an instructor on a tandem configuration.
Simulators
For those who are curious about flying, but not sure whether they are ready to take to the skies. Here, you can sit in a realistic simulator, whether that's for a Boeing 737, or combat multiplayer F-35 sim experience, these offer in depth tuition without you having to leave the ground.
Skydives
For the thrill seekers who want to tumble through the air at speeds of 120mph, this is an experience to add to your bucket list. Although you are attached to a trained instructor, this won’t disrupt the exhilaration of free falling as you descend 5000 feet.
How to Book a Flydays Experience
Once you have found the experience you want to try, you can simply buy a voucher for that session. You, or the recipient can then validate and book in for that experience on a suitable date.
Alternatively, you can buy a Gift Voucher for Flying that can be redeemed on the website for any experience. This is the ideal gift choice as it gives the recipient the freedom to choose the flying experience they want.
All vouchers come with the option of being sent by email, or in a presentation pack.
