Vintage Flying in the East of England
The Eastern counties are home to a litany of venues steeped in aviation history, some of which are former or active RAF bases.
The best known of these is undoubtedly IWM Duxford, which offers wing-to-wing Vintage Flights alongside a Spitfire, in iconic biplanes such as the De Havilland Tiger Moth, Dragon Rapide and Air Commodore, and fixed wing Harvard "Warbird" planes.
And of course, once you’re back on the ground, there’s also the Imperial War Museum itself, Europe’s renowned centre of aviation history, with over 200 aircraft, military vehicles, artillery and minor naval vessels to explore and discover in the wealth of exhibition buildings on site.
Flying Lessons in the East of England
Getting off to a flying start - literally - is easier to do than you might imagine, with our selection of Aeroplane Flying Lessons that are available to book in for across the East.
Furthermore, whilst the costs of beginning your journey towards obtaining your PPL (Private Pilot’s Licence) can be princely - especially as you have to complete 60 hours of flight training before obtaining it - we’ve got some excellent value packages, such as our 3 Hour Pilot Starter Training Pack at venues including Great Oakley Airfield near the port town of Harwich in Essex, bundling three hour long flying lessons in a fixed-wing aircraft under the guidance of a CAA approved flying instructor into the price of one voucher.
Or if you’re based in Bedfordshire, Cranfield Airport offers flying lessons in a four-seater Piper PA-28 training plane, which, under the guidance of your pilot, you’ll be flying to Turweston Aerodrome in Northamptonshire in a round trip of two 30 minute flights!
Microlighting in the East of England
The small but mighty way to fly, Microlighting continues to grow in popularity, and two of our Eastern venues - Little Gransden Airfield in Bedfordshire and Sutton Meadows Airfield in Cambridgeshire - have a variety of lengths of Fixed-Wing Microlight sessions available, from 30 to 60 minutes, that offer the best way to take in the beautiful scenery the region has to offer from a birds-eye view.
Skydiving in the East of England
For the thrill seekers who want to tumble through the air at speeds of 120mph, our Skydiving experiences will be ones you want to add to your bucket list. Sibson Aerodrome near Peterborough offers a true adrenaline rush with some awesome Tandem Skydiving packages.
Although you are attached to a trained instructor on this experience, this won’t disrupt the exhilaration of free falling as you descend 5000 feet through the air and you feel the sudden thrill of the parachute deploying and begin your graceful descent back to earth on a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Flight Simulators in the East of England
For those who are curious about flying, but not sure whether they are ready to take to the skies, Flight Simulators, utilising state-of-the-art technology and 360° high resolution screens, are the way forward. RAF Mildenhall, near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, offers a variety of excellent Flight Simulation experiences.
Here, you can sit in a realistic simulator. And whether it's for a Boeing 737 commercial airliner, a Westland Lynx helicopter, or a Spitfire Simulator experience in a full-scale replica that sounds and feels like the genuine article, these offer in depth tuition without you having to leave the ground.

Terms and Conditions for Flying Experiences in the East of England
Once you order a voucher, it will be dispatched by one of our agency partners by e-voucher or by post, depending on which you choose when you checkout.
Vouchers are valid until the expiry date shown on your Voucher (typically 10-12 months).
In most cases, once you activate your voucher you will be sent the instructions to redeem the voucher directly with the airfield or operator. Because flying experiences (other than simulators) can only take place in suitable/ safe weather conditions, you must be prepared to be flexible on your activity date. If the agent or operator cancels your experience date, they will inform you as soon as possible and do their very best to offer an alternative date or location. Once a specific date has been booked, you will automatically become bound by the terms and conditions that the individual operator may have. This does not affect your statutory rights.
Whilst every effort is made to ensure the descriptions contained on our products are a true reflection of the experience, these do not form part of a contract. If on contacting the operator you feel that the activity taking place no longer accurately represents the activity purchased, the relevant agent will exchange the voucher or refund the purchase price.
