Conington Airfield Flying Experiences

Conington Airfield, also known as Peterborough Business Airport, is a privately owned airfield, situated near the villages of Conington and Holme, and of course the city of Peterborough itself, just under half an hour from the city centre.

Originally built as RAF Glatton in 1943 during WWII, the B-17 Flying Fortress bombers of the 457th Bomb Group and the 809th United States Army Corps of Engineers were both located here, until RAF Bomber Command mothballed the airfield shortly after the end of WWII in 1946.

Apart from the blister hangar and the old water tower, not much of the original airfield survives now. By the end of the 1960s, two local companies were utilising the E/W runway that remained to park their small executive aircraft in the blister hangar, with the first of several small portacabins being used as a passenger reception location.

Between then and into the 1970s and beyond, more portacabins appeared as private fliers came and went. In 1995, the current control tower and building was built, with the flying club renamed to Flying Club Conington in 2000, and it continues to offer both flight training and private passenger flights to this day.

Flight Simulator Experiences at Conington Airfield

Also on site at Conington Airfield, there is a fully functional Flight Simulator, of an RAF F-4 Phantom, which we are delighted to offer as one of our many Flight Simulator experiences for those in this part of the East of England.

So if you've ever dreamt of seeing what life is like as a jet fighter pilot, this simulator will get you as close to the Real McCoy as possible! The original cockpit has been preserved on a hydraulic motion platform that lets you feel everything, with fully functional controls.

Under the expert guidance of a fully qualified pilot, you'll get to grips with using the simulator to go on the mission of your choosing. In fact, everything about this simulator experience is so well thought out and realistic, we dare say you'll actually forget you're still on solid ground whilst it's all happening!
