Information About Henstridge Airfield

Henstridge Airfield, a bustling centre for pilots, aviation students, and the public, is a place of constant activity and excitement. It hosts various events throughout the year, from vintage car and plane days to car boot sales and charity events. But its history is just as thrilling. It served as a Fleet Air Arm training airfield during World War II, known as HMS Dipper. Construction began in 1941, and it was finally commissioned in April 1943. Home to Seafires, Spitfires, Typhoons, and Masters, it was a key training ground until the war's end. Notably, a section of the main runway was transformed into an aircraft carrier deck with an arrestor wire system for pilot training in deck landings!
