Nestled in North Lanarkshire, Cumbernauld Airport offers first class flying facilities, as you would expect from one of Scotland’s busiest airfields for private pilot training, as well as a helicopter charter company. Fittingly, with FlyDays.co.uk, we have it available to book a range of helicopter flying experiences through available dates and open gift vouchers.
Please note some or all of the flying experiences below at Cumbernauld Airport may be run by an independent operator and the flight dates will be subject to availability.

Cumbernauld Airport is easily accessible from both Glasgow and Edinburgh via the M8 and M80 motorways. If travelling by train, your nearest station is Cumbernauld, and a taxi from the station to the airport takes around 8 minutes.
Cumbernauld Airport is conveniently located within easy reach of Scotland’s two largest cities, about 18 miles North East of Glasgow, and less than 40 miles from Edinburgh. For Scottish aviation fans, it’s a training base for fixed wing and rotary wing pilots.
And, in comparison to many of our other air bases here on FlyDays, it’s unique in that it is actually one of the newest. First ordered and built by the Cumbernauld Development Corporation, it was opened towards the end of the 1980s.
It took the existing grass runway strip that had been in existence there before they occupied the same site, as well as adding a 820m x 23m asphalt runway, as well as refuelling facilities and hangars that can accommodate King Air sized aircraft.
During its first few years of opening, Cumbernauld also hosted several air shows, most notably a display from the Red Arrows, and a staged ‘dogfight’ flight between a Supermarine Spitfire and a German Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter plane.
A helicopter flight with FlyDays.co.uk is undoubtedly one of the most exciting ways to head skywards. Tempted? Well the good news is that Cumbernauld Airport has a range of helicopter flying experiences to enjoy.
It’s hard to match the thrill of a vertical take off. Yet, within seconds the chopper is high above the ground, whisking its occupants over stunning scenery, allowing them to take in the beautiful views from a bird’s eye perspective.
Cumbernauld Airport has two helicopter flying experiences which are ideal for one person. Both experiences allow you to actually fly the helicopter. How’s that for the ultimate bragging rights? Whether it’s the tactical helicopter flying lesson or the insight to becoming a helicopter pilot, either will provide an adrenaline rush unlike anything else and could ignite a passion for a future in aviation.
There’s also an opportunity to double the fun with our tactical helicopter flying lesson for two. This is your chance to fly over North Lanarkshire with a friend, partner or loved one and gain a basic knowledge of how a helicopter flies. Once again, there’ll be the chance to put what you’ve learnt into practice by taking the controls.
A booklet is also included in the package, which explains some key aircraft handling techniques. However, the best part is that because it’s an experience for two people it can be shared, with great memories for years to come.
Make it a triple bill with our exclusive tactical helicopter flying lesson for three, which makes it a brilliant experience that is ideal for a group of friends to enjoy.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a group of three to get hands-on experience of helicopter flying and possibly set one, or all of them, on the path to a Helicopter Pilot’s Licence.
It couldn’t be simpler to book a flying experience at Cumbernauld Airport. Just choose the experience you want by booking onto an available date. Alternatively you can select one of our open gift vouchers to put toward the flying experience you want to enjoy or treat a loved one too. All that remains is to look forward to your time in the sky.
