Surrounded by stunning views of the South Downs National Park and the South Coast, Brighton City Airport is one of our most popular destinations for flying experiences here at FlyDays, with its good links to the city centre but also from Worthing and Bognor Regis.
It’s also one of our oldest venues on our books too. Its genesis starts back in 1910, when Harold Piffard, a former student of nearby Lancing College, decided to create himself a flying base near the banks of the River Adur that runs between Lancing and Shoreham, where the airport still stands to this day, with a memorial garden marking his legacy.
Over the last century, it has seen many aircraft greats score up and down its four Asphalt and grass runways, including those that served our country, from the Royal Flying Corps No. 3 Reserve Squadron at the outbreak of World War I in 1914, to the Royal Air Force’s base for the 277 Air Sea Rescue Squadron in World War II in 1940.
Its Terminal building, in a distinctive Art Deco period style, is now Grade II listed, with many of its original features intact. Civil aviation returned to the site from 1946 onwards, with the name change to Brighton City Airport - as it is known today - coming as recently as 2013.
Brighton City Airport is still known as a leading site of aviation innovation, being used by FTA Global as a commercial flying school to train up future airline pilots both here in the UK and around the world, which has been so successful a sister school at Teruel Airport in Spain has been established.
Coastline Choppers at Brighton
The sea has a mesmerising quality, whether it’s standing on the beach with the waves lapping at your feet, or from high above in a helicopter. From Brighton City Airport, you can enjoy some of the best scenery that the south coast has to offer.
We have a range of helicopter flights to choose from, varying in length depending on your requirements. Whether it’s a 12 mile, 15 mile or 25 mile aerial adventure, we’ve got the experience for you.
Sea, Sky and Fizz
Brighton is a shining jewel on the south coast, with its famous Palace Pier, Pavilion, i360 and Madeira Drive attractions to name but a few, so what better way to enjoy it than from a different perspective, inside the cockpit of a helicopter.
With some packages you can top off the occasion with a glass of fizz – making the experience a sensation for the eyes as well as the taste buds.
The Beautiful South
A helicopter flying experience is unlike any other. And hovering above Brighton and its surrounding countryside is one of the best places in the UK to do it.
Indeed, Sussex has been a magnet for visitors and tourists ever since the Brighton Pavilion was built some 200 years ago. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t enjoy a flying experience and see the Pavilion in all its glory - but you can.
Pilot and Pupil
If you’re not content with simply enjoying a helicopter flying experience but also want to take the controls, don’t worry as FlyDays.co.uk has you covered.
Our tactical helicopter flying lessons for one or two people give you the opportunity to actually fly the aircraft and can count towards a Helicopter Pilot’s Licence. What are you waiting for? Book a helicopter trial lesson and be bitten by the aviation bug.
