About the experience
Is there a better combination than a flying lesson whilst experiencing a slice of aviation history? Here at Barton City Airport in the heart of Manchester you get to experience the best of both worlds. With expert pilots on hand to show you how to master the microlights, you’ll also get to explore the 1920s, Grade II listed control tower, terminal building and hangar. It’s not everyday that you get to be a part of history, and with links to WW2 and beyond, this is an extra special site to fly out of. As soon as you arrive you’ll be welcomed by one of the passionate pilots, in this instance, probably Mark who is hugely experienced and the first person to fly a microlight over Kilimanjaro at 24,262ft. Although this isn’t Tanzania, you will still enjoy marvellous views out over Manchester whilst learning to fly in one of the best trainer aircrafts around. The stability and lightness of microlight aircrafts should not be sniffed at, as they allow for the learner to make mistakes as they are super stable and easy to get the hang of. We think you’ll be mastering the skies in a microlight in no time, and who wouldn’t want to when you’re flying out of an aviation history hotspot?

- Participants should call to check the weather conditions on the morning of their flight
- If the weather is not suitable, flights will be rebooked for a mutually convenient date
- Hot/cold food and drinks can be purchased from the onsite 'Runway 26' café and bar
- Under 18s must be accompanied on the airfield by an adult
- Spectators are welcome
