30 Minute Tiger Moth Flying Lesson - North Weald
About the experience
If you or the vintage aviation enthusiast in your life has ever wanted to learn to fly a Tiger Moth biplane, now’s your chance with this 30 minute flying lesson, held at North Weald Airfield in Essex! This historic former RAF airfield is just north of Epping, opened in 1916 and used extensively through both World Wars, and is now in civilian use and continues to be a veritable hub of vintage aircraft in this part of the UK. The deHavilland Tiger Moths form a big part of this, and whilst you may not know exactly which one you’ll fly during your day, they have all been lovingly restored and looked after to retain their full flying potential. Tiger Moths are charming little planes, their characteristic tail dragger and open cockpit has held a special place in the heart of vintage flying fans for generations, particularly as it was used as an Air Force Trainer for many years. They’re also, as the team at the airfield would say, a “a robust aircraft that is generally docile and forgiving in normal flight”. But that’s not to say they’re not tons of fun to fly! This trial lesson is as close to the same ones that young RAF pilot trainees would have undergone in them, and once you’re at level flight after your instructor has taken off, then the controls are all with you! Slots for lessons get booked up fast during flying season (March - November) so make sure you get yours secured today!
