Explore this former RAF station and immerse yourself in its wartime history through iconic aircraft and hands-on activities. After arriving in Essex, you will be welcomed by an expert host who will guide you through the WWII hangar, home to legendary aircraft including the Supermarine Spitfire and the T-6 Harvard. Learning about North Weald’s crucial wartime role while seeing these aircraft up close brings history vividly to life. A standout moment is the chance to climb into the cockpits of both the Spitfire and the Harvard. You will also meet a true aviation legend — ‘Drag ’em Oot’, a 1944 C-47 Skytrain Dakota that served during D-Day and Operation Market Garden. You will then board a Dakota for an exhilarating fast taxi dash along the runway, feeling the power as it accelerates to near take-off speed. The noise, anticipation and atmosphere offer a powerful insight into what WWII aircrews and soldiers once experienced. After taxiing back, there’s time to meet the pilots, ask questions and take photos. This immersive WWII experience at North Weald Airfield is a must for fans of vintage aircraft and living history.
