Can I Fly in an Ultralight Plane with No Experience of Flying?

Can I Fly an Ultralight Plane with No Experience of Flying?

Yes, you can with Flydays. Of course, you won’t be on your own, and you will be accompanied by an experienced instructor, but you can actually take the controls the first time you head skywards!

How hard is it to learn to fly an ultralight airplane?

An ultralight plane, also known as a microlight, has fewer systems and controls than an airplane, so the basics are easier to understand.

But that won’t make it as easy as falling off a log because it’s a working piece of machinery that deserves full respect.

However, those who want to take to the skies have the opportunity to do so with FlyDays, but they’ll need enthusiasm and a sense of adventure!

What are the controls of an ultralight airplane?

If flying in an open cockpit microlight, then the craft is steered using a control bar, while the thrust is provided by the propeller and is controlled with the throttle.

To climb, push out the bar to raise the nose of the wing, while to go down pull the control bar in, which will dip the plane’s nose, starting a descent.

Where can I fly an ultralight airplane?

We want as many people to enjoy Microlighting as possible, so we have a wide variety of airfields that have light aircraft flying schools across the UK ready for take-off.

From Scotland to the south of England, airfields can be found in Perth and Kinross, in Lancashire, Surrey, Herefordshire, Somerset, Kent, Oxfordshire…the list goes on!

Many airfields are also happy for spectators to come along, so it can be an experience shared with friends and family.

What can I expect with an ultralight plane flying experience?

While all ultralight plane flying experiences are different, most do follow a similar format. Upon arrival at the airfield, you’ll be given a warm welcome and meet your instructor.

Safety is paramount and instructors are trained to meet the strict requirements of the British Microlight Aircraft Association and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

A safety briefing on the ground is essential before taking to the skies. When airborne, and if you feel confident enough, then you’ll likely be given the opportunity to take the controls.

Of course, the thrill of flying, having the wind rush by and enjoying magnificent views from high above, make flying an ultralight plane an unforgettable experience.

How long does an ultralight plane flying experience last?

Flight times vary depending on the experience booked, so can last anything from 20 minutes to two hours.

There’s also plenty of different time slots in between, including 30 minutes, 45 minutes and 60 minutes.

What are you waiting for?

A Light Aircraft flying package is a magical day out. You’ll learn new skills, feel an adrenaline rush like no other, and also have great fun. It could even spark a passion for aviation and be the beginning of a career as a pilot!
