We were saddened to hear the news that a long standing Operations Manager in the Flying Experience industry, Jamie Phelan, has received some devastating news in recent months. Following the recent birth of her fourth child during the lockdown at the beginning of this year, she has been diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme.
This is a rare and extremely aggressive brain tumour. Current statistics show that life expectancy for this form of cancer is approximately 12 - 18 months from diagnosis. Only 25% of patients are fortunate enough to survive more than one year, while only 5% will survive more than five years.
We really wanted to help Jamie when we heard the news, so that she can receive the treatment that she needs to help prolong her life, specifically, to receive DCVax. This is a ground-breaking new immunotherapy treatment, whereby personalised immune therapy is made from each patient's own dendritic cells.
Dendritic cells are a type of immune cell that function to help the body's immune system recognise and attack tumour cells. The hope is that by receiving this treatment, Jamie will be able to prolong her life so she can spend it with her husband and her young family.
The costs of this treatment are in excess of €200,000, and a fundraising page has been set up to help try and raise funds for Jamie to receive this vital treatment. We hope therefore, that by reaching out to you, our customers, you can show your support and give whatever you are able to to help Jamie.
Please visit the Help Jamie Fight Brain Cancer page today to make your donation - it is currently just under ¾ of the way to the target of €200,000, so whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
