About the experience
If you’ve always had your eyes set on flying a plane through the skies, this is your sign. With this 30 Minute Flight experience taking off from the historic Netherthorpe Airfield in Sheffield, you’ll get the chance to learn all the controls of a light aircraft before having a stint in the pilot’s seat yourself. Flying has been happening at this site, easily accessible from North Nottingham, North East Derby and South Yorkshire, since 1933 where it was an RAF Airbase and then a civil aviation centre.1961 gave birth to the Sheffield aero club where today, you’ll be greeted by a friendly set of enthusiastic instructors keen to make your first flying experience as smooth and memorable as possible. After receiving a warm welcome from the team, you’ll be walked through a pre flight briefing before heading out to the plane. Once you’ve warmed up to being in the skies and have a basic understanding of the controls, you’ll get a chance to fly the plane yourself. Whether you’re a flyer who has taken some time out of the skies and is looking for an experience to ease yourself back in or a complete newbie, it’s safe to say everyone will feel well looked after at this flight school with a host of experienced instructors on hand. This 2 seater light aircraft is the ideal plane for beginners or those who have taken a break from flying as it’s easy to control and very forgiving. - Tuesdays to Sundays (closed Mondays) throughout the year, subject to weather conditions and availability
- Although time slots are allocated please be aware that aircraft lessons are subject to a number of factors which may potentially cause delay to your scheduled time
- Whilst every effort will be made to help keep you on time we ask for a degree of latitude owing to the nature of flying, air traffic delays and weather considerations
- Spectators are welcome to attend and watch participants in flight with plenty of great photo opportunities
