Step into the cockpit of an iconic warbird with this unforgettable Sit in a Mustang experience at the renowned Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar in Kent. Here, you will have the rare opportunity to climb aboard a historic WWII P-51D Mustang fighter and enjoy a guided tour of the hangar. During your visit, you will meet the legendary “Moonbeam McSwine.” Named in tribute to American triple flying ace Captain William T. Whisner, this P-51 was built by North American Aviation in 1944 and played an active role during the Second World War. Now fully restored and airworthy as a two-seat Mustang, “Moonbeam McSwine” once again takes to the skies over Kent. With its polished aluminium finish and distinctive blue nose, it’s a striking sight flying alongside Spitfires and Hurricanes just as these aircraft once did during wartime. A knowledgeable guide will share the aircraft’s fascinating history, explaining the engineering and cockpit controls that made the Mustang such a formidable long-range escort fighter. The highlight of the experience is climbing onto the wing and settling into the cockpit yourself. Sitting at the controls, you can imagine what it was like for WWII pilots preparing for a mission.   • Participants must be physically agile enough to climb into the cockpit
  • The cockpit is 55cm wide with a 46cm access door
  • Access to the aircraft will be one at a time
  • Staff will be on hand at all times to assist guests in and out of the aircraft
  • Leather-soled shoes are not suitable as they may slip on the wing, trainers, or rubber soled shoes are ideal
  • Regular 'Hangar Tour' cannot be combined with a Sit in a Mustang activities as these are run at different times and the tour content and duration is different

  • This experience is available on selected weekdays and weekends throughout the year
  • Sessions generally start at 11:00 or 13:00
  • Spaces are limited so please book in advance
