Remember the 11th November with a Vintage Flying Experience
07 November 2024
As red poppies begin to bloom across towns and cities, they signal one thing: Remembrance Day is approaching. Observed on November 11th, it’s a day to honour and remember the military personnel who lost their lives in wars and conflicts around the world. Originally, Remembrance Day commemorated the end of World War I, a devastating conflict with approximately 40 million military and civilian casualties. Hostilities ceased on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, marking a solemn moment in history.
Today, people observe Remembrance Day with a moment of silence and by wearing poppies—a symbol of remembrance inspired by the flowers that bloomed on battlefields after the war. In honour of the day, we’re highlighting some vintage flying experiences for those interested in connecting with aviation history first-hand.
- Spitfire Flying Experiences
The Spitfire is one of the most iconic aircraft of World War II and remains synonymous with British resilience. This legendary single-seat fighter played a crucial role in protecting Britain, especially during the Battle of Britain. Even though most of these planes are now over 70 years old, their agility and speed continue to amaze.
We offer a range of Spitfire Flying Experiences across the UK to suit various budgets. For an unforgettable once in a lifetime experience, consider the White Cliffs of Dover Spitfire Flight in Kent. This 55-minute flight follows the same path Battle of Britain pilots flew, taking you across the White Cliffs and over the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne. You’ll be immersed in the sights, sounds, and even the smells of this legendary aircraft as you float through the skies and reflect on what went on around this airspace.
For a unique view of the Spitfire in action, you can even Fly with a Spitfire from Essex or Kent, where you’ll watch as it performs breathtaking manoeuvres around you, giving you an up-close view of its grace in the air. If you prefer an immersive ground experience, our Spitfire Simulator Training Sessions let you step into a replica cockpit with a 220-degree HD screen and master the controls. You can even try your hand at different missions and, if you’re up for the challenge, experience an aerial dogfight simulation like those flown during WWII. These special Spitfire Experiences offer a rare opportunity to connect with aviation history first-hand.
- Other Vintage Flying Experiences
You can also explore other historic aircraft from across the Atlantic with our Boeing-Stearman Model 75 Flying Experiences. Another popular choice in our vintage collection is the Dragon Rapide, used by the RAF during WWII for navigation training, passenger transport, and communication missions.
