Top Questions We Get Asked Before Takeoff—Answered!

Whether it's your first scenic flight, a surprise gift flight, or a trial flying lesson, it's natural to have a few questions before takeoff. At Flydays, we're here to make sure you feel confident, safe, and excited before you head into the skies.

Here are the top questions we hear from our customers—answered clearly and honestly.

1. Do I need any experience to fly?

Nope! Whether you're hopping in for a scenic flight or taking the controls during a trial lesson, no previous flying experience is required. Your pilot will be alongside you throughout your experience to help you and walk you through everything step-by-step.

2. What should I wear?

  • Comfort is key. We recommend:
  • Comfortable clothes (layers are great, especially during colder months)
  • Closed-toe shoes (avoid sandals)
  • Sunglasses (it can be bright up there!)
  • Depending on your chosen experience, you can bring your phone or camera—just make sure it's secure during the flight.

3. Is it safe?

Absolutely. All of our flying experiences follow strict safety protocols. The aircraft used are regularly inspected, and the pilots are highly trained and licensed. Safety is our top priority, and we never fly if conditions aren't suitable.

4. What happens if the weather is bad?

If the weather isn't cooperating—strong winds, low visibility, or storms— The organiser will reschedule your flight to an alternative day. The organisers will keep a close eye on forecasts and will always keep you updated ahead of time.

5. Who will be joining me on the flight?

This depends on the type of flying experience and aircraft, as well as height and weight limits. As a general guide:

2-Seater: Just you and the instructor

4-Seater: You, the instructor, and possibly one guest

Most 2-seater lessons are one-on-one with a professional instructor. Some 4-seater helicopter or aeroplane lessons may allow a guest to join, but this varies by experience and passenger limits. Always check the specific experience details before booking.

6. What flying experiences do you offer?

At Flydays, we offer an exciting range of flying experiences across the UK—from flying lessons and aerobatic flights to gliding, gyrocopter adventures, drone training, and helicopter rides. You can also enjoy hot air balloon trips, flight simulators, indoor skydiving, and much more—available at airfields and venues nationwide.

7. Can I take pictures or videos during the flight?

Absolutely! Scenic flights provide amazing photo opportunities. Just make sure your camera or phone is secure, and check the package details for any specific rules about bringing devices on board. And remember—no leaning out of the aircraft!

8. How long is the flight?

Flight times vary depending on the package you choose. Scenic flights can range from 20 minutes to over an hour. Trial lessons typically last around 30–60 minutes, including a pre-flight briefing. For exact durations, be sure to check the package description for estimated flight and experience times.

9. What are the height and weight restrictions for flying experiences?

Each experience on our website includes specific height, weight, and age restrictions—please review these carefully before booking or ordering a voucher.

Weight Limits

Light aircraft and helicopters have strict weight limits based on the total weight of passengers and the pilot, not just the number of seats. For example, a 4-seat plane may only carry 3 passengers if the combined weight exceeds the aircraft's limit. Passenger weight is checked on the day to ensure safety.

Height Limits

Most light aircraft have a height limit of 1.98m (6ft 6), mainly for legroom. Helicopters usually offer more space, but always check the experience details if you're taller than this.

Age and Height for Kids

Many pleasure flights have a minimum age (commonly 6+), as passengers must be able to securely wear a seatbelt. For hot air balloon rides, the minimum height is usually 122cm (4ft) so passengers can see over the basket edge.

10. How do I book, and what's your cancellation policy?

Once you order a voucher, it will be sent via email or post, depending on your choice at checkout. Vouchers are valid until the expiry date shown (usually 10–12 months).

After activating your voucher, you'll receive instructions to book directly with the airfield or operator. As flying depends on suitable weather, please be flexible with your booking. If your flight is cancelled, the operator will contact you and offer an alternative date or location.

Once a date is confirmed, the operator's terms and conditions apply. This does not affect your statutory rights.

We strive to keep all experience descriptions accurate, but they don't form part of a contract. If the activity no longer matches the description, the agent can exchange the voucher or issue a refund.
