Flying Lessons in Yorkshire and the Humber
Beginning your flying career in God's own country is easier to arrange than you might think, as we have a number of Aeroplane Flying Lessons and Helicopter Flying Lessons available to book in and around Yorkshire.
Under the guidance of CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) approved pilots and flying instructors, in sessions varying in length from 15 minutes all the way up to 90 minutes, you'll begin to pick up and master the basics of flying, gradually building in confidence throughout.
At Netherthorpe Airfield near Sheffield, which is home to the Sheffield Aero Club you can take flight in a fixed-wing, two seater aircraft that's both nimble and agile when airborne and is the perfect place to start your flight training from.
Meanwhile at Nottingham Heliport, our Helicopter Triple Tactical Lessons for One or Two are the most comprehensive and insightful lessons around, as not only will you get to learn how to fly a helicopter, you'll also pick up essential observation and navigation skills, split up over three flights - two observational flights, and one at the controls where you'll get to fly the helicopter and take on the hover challenge.
And whichever lesson you opt for, the learning will count towards your hours of training required in order to obtain your PPL (Private Pilot's Licence).
Helicopter Rides in Yorkshire and the Humber
With rolling hills and dales, spectacular countryside and some of Britain's most iconic landmarks and architecture, there is truly no better way to explore Yorkshire than from the air on one of our Helicopter Ride packages.
Some of these are themed as well, such as our Dambusters Helicopter Tour, which charts the historic training route in the Peak District taken by the trainee fighter pilots who successfully carried off the Dambusters raid operation in 1943 during World War II that's ideal for military aviation enthusiasts.
Taking off from Elvington Airfield, devoted fans of one of the most popular soap operas on the box, Emmerdale, will love getting the opportunity to fly over the set of the long running ITV soap on our Emmerdale themed helicopter tour, and being able to take in the gorgeous North Yorkshire landscape that surrounds it.
And for footie fans, if your beloved club is Hull City AFC, then there is the exciting chance to take flight from Beverley Airfield near Leven and take in their home of KCOM Stadium and discover it from an entirely new perspective to the one you see on match days with our Football Stadium helicopter tours!
Vintage Biplane Flights in Yorkshire and the Humber
Over at the former RAF bomber base of Breighton Airfield in Selby is the chance to take to the skies in a stunning and faithfully restored vintage De Havilland Tiger Moth biplane.
A former RAF training plane that served at bases as diverse as Warwickshire and Wiltshire during wartime, there is very little that beats getting to fly in an open cockpit for a session of either 15 minutes or 60 minutes over a location that's steeped in classic and heritage aviation.
Gliding in Yorkshire and the Humber
Gliding surely has to be one of the most graceful and serene ways to enjoy taking flight; in fact, for many budding aviators, it's where their flying journey begins.
Burn Gliding Club, based in North Yorkshire, offers a variety of Gliding Experiences, including a 2000ft or 3000ft Aerotow Gliding package, where the thermal lift is all that keeps you airborne.
It runs year round, but is particularly good to do in the summer months, as you may have the opportunity to ride what's known as the 'Pennine wave', where the sun creates rising currents of thermal air to give your glider even more of a boost!
